Here we see the destructive effect of amnesia on feelings and the interconnectedness of mental contents comprising “what-it-is-like-to-be”—qualitative features of being human that convey a sense of spirit or depth in a human soul (Kant, A, 124). The internal relations between such aspects of human experience and connectivity are also evident in psychopathologies in which we see the discursive or highest level of adaptation prominently involved: depression, psychomotor retardation, or abulia—each arises from “local dissolutions of the highest centres” (JHJ, 1887) integrating emotive-motivational tone into our cognitive life.
